Police Arrest TTY Manager Over Shooting
Kratie provincial police have arrested the general manager of TTY rubber company, and he is now facing charges for his role in a Jan. 18 shooting of four villagers by the company’s armed guards, police and court officials said yesterday. Authorities arrested two TTY guards last month on suspicion that they opened fire with AK-47 assault rifles, injuring four people in a group of villagers protesting against alleged land grabbing by the firm. Kratie deputy provincial police chief Oum Phy said police arrested TTY General Manager Un Piseth last week after Kratie Provincial court ordered his arrest. … On Feb. 5, TTY was forced to hand over two security guards – Ke Sovannara, 41 and Piun Kimleng, 26 – after Prime Minister Hun Sen publicly ordered company director Na Marady to do so, or else face questioning in court. Until Mr. Hun Sen’s speech, Kratie authorities had claimed for three weeks that they could note find the gunman who shot the unarmed villagers. …
